IUCN Vertebrate Species

Every IUCN-assessed vertebrate (phylum Chordata) with its conservation status and taxonomy — the full universe for the Revive & Restore genome gap demo, not just the threatened subset. Conservation status (CR/EN/VU/NT/LC/DD/…), a threatened flag, and a hasGenome flag are per-record attributes the apps filter and toggle on.

Paired with reviverestore/ncbi-assemblies (reference genomes) and reconciled through reviverestore/gbif-backbone, this answers the killer question at any slice: how many species — at a given threat level — have a reference genome?

Source

  • Dataset: The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, as hosted on GBIF (checklist dataset 19491596-35ae-4a91-9a98-85cf505f1bd3).
  • Access: GBIF Species API (species/search over the checklist dataset). No key required. Each record carries a threatStatuses array and a nubKey linking it to the GBIF backbone.
  • Scope (default): phylum Chordata (vertebrates), all statuses. Scope is configurable — see the org-level scraper.

Conservation status originates with the IUCN Red List (https://www.iucnredlist.org); please observe IUCN Red List terms of use for any downstream redistribution. Records here are factual status/taxonomy fields, not assessment narratives.

Records

One Species record per assessed vertebrate. id is gbif:{nubKey} — the GBIF backbone key, shared with gbif-backbone and ncbi-assemblies so the three collections join at the application level.
